JHYRef Assists Wanyang’s Defluorination-Dechlorination Rotary Kiln Project

Recently, the “150,000-ton-per-year Zinc-Based Materials Green Intelligent Manufacturing Project” invested and constructed by Henan Wanyang Zinc Industry Co., Ltd. has made new progress. A key supporting project—the defluorination and chlorination rotary kiln system for zinc oxide dust—has successfully entered the kiln drying phase. The design and material supply for the refractory system of this defluorination and chlorination rotary kiln system are undertaken by Zhengzhou Jinheyuan Refractory Materials Co., Ltd.(JHY Ref), marking a significant step toward the project’s operational readiness.

Project Background: Building a Green and Efficient Precious Metal Recycling System

Henan Wanyang Zinc Industry Co., Ltd., relying on the under-construction 150,000-ton-per-year Zinc-Based Materials Green Intelligent Manufacturing Project, focuses on the comprehensive recovery of zinc oxide dust rich in precious metals such as indium and silver produced during zinc smelting. As the dust contains high concentrations of fluorine and chlorine, defluorination and dechlorination treatment is required to improve resource recovery rates and product purity.

To achieve this, the company is constructing key units, including a cadmium refining recovery system, an indium recovery system, anode and cathode plate production lines, a rotary kiln for zinc oxide defluorination and dechlorination and its auxiliary systems, and a water atomized zinc production unit. Once completed, the project will achieve an annual output of 807.03 tons of refined cadmium and 28.89 tons of indium ingots, significantly enhancing the recovery and utilization of precious metals. It complies with the National Implementation Plan for Carbon Peak in the Nonferrous Metal Industry, promoting the development of a green circular economy.

In this project, Zhengzhou Jinheyuan Refractory Materials Co., Ltd.(JHY Ref) was responsible for the refractory lining design, material supply, and technical services of the defluorination and chlorination rotary kiln system. To address the complex conditions of high fluorine, high chlorine, and strong high-temperature erosion in the flue dust, the JHYRef team selected the company’s self-developed phosphate-bonded alumina wear-resistant bricks as the primary lining material.

This product has the following notable performance advantages:

·Excellent abrasion resistance: effectively resists the erosion of dust particles and airflow at high temperatures;

·High strength and high load softening temperature: remains structurally stable above 1200℃, without deforming or collapsing;

·Excellent thermal shock resistance: It can withstand frequent hot and cold cycles without cracking or peeling;

·Strong resistance to chemical corrosion: It can adapt to corrosive environments containing fluorine and chlorine for a long time, extending the service life of the kiln body.

The successful application of this series of refractory materials not only meets the requirements for the long-term stable operation of the rotary kiln, but also provides a solid guarantee for the system’s energy conservation, consumption reduction, and green smelting. Currently, the refractory lining of the project has been completed, and the kiln has entered the drying and heating stage, marking a critical stage in the system’s commissioning.
